Changes to the Minimum Wage
Cllr Mick Barry, Socialist Party/United Left Alliance candidate for Cork North Central, this morning warned employers that it is illegal for them to cut the minimum wage of current employees without their agreement.

Update: Don’t let them Close the Orthapedic!
The Government plans to introduce up to a billion euro in health cuts in the Budget and St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital in Gurranabraher is set to shut down by March 31 2011. Fianna Fail will attempt to offload blame onto the HSE for the closure.

What a load of Blarney!
It’s not easy easy being an aristocrat, according to Sir Charles Colthurst, the owner of Blarney Castle. Not content with private fishing rights, tax breaks and a stable full of horses, Sir Charles has also called for the minimum wage to be cut, claiming the castle can’t remain profitable without it.
Fighting to Save the Orthapedic Hospital
There has been some good news in the ongoing campaign to save the Orthopaedic Hospital on Baker’s Road, with the trade union SIPTU stating they will fight the clousure. However, this fighting talk must be turned into action.
